Export and Pricing FAQ
Short answers to the questions people most often search for before importing olive oil and canned fish from Tunisia.
How do I get a price for exporting olive oil from Tunisia?
Send us the product, pack size, quantity and destination port. We reply with a written quotation (pro-forma invoice) that states price, Incoterm, lead time and payment terms, normally within one business day.
How is the price of olive oil per tonne or per litre decided?
Mainly by grade (extra virgin, virgin or pomace), harvest, packaging (bottle, tin, drum or flexitank), quantity and destination. Prices move with the harvest and the market, so a quotation is valid only for the period stated on it.
Which currency are your prices in?
Indicative prices are shown in US dollars. You can convert them with the live currency board on this page. The binding currency is the one written on your pro-forma invoice.
What is the difference between FOB, CFR and CIF?
FOB: we deliver on board at the Tunisian port and you pay main freight. CFR: we also pay freight to your destination port. CIF: as CFR, plus minimum marine insurance. See the Incoterms explainer above.
What is the minimum order quantity?
For bulk olive oil a 20 ft container is the usual start. Retail packs and canned fish can often ship as mixed pallets. Tell us the volume you have in mind and we will say what is practical.
What payment terms do exporters usually accept?
Bank transfer (often a deposit with the balance before shipment or against documents) or a letter of credit. We agree terms in writing in the pro-forma invoice before production starts.
How do I export food products from Tunisia?
Agree the product and specification, receive a pro-forma invoice, pay under the agreed terms, then production, inspection, loading and customs clearance follow. Requirements can change, so confirm current rules with Tunisian customs and your own authorities.
Which documents are needed to export olive oil or canned fish?
Normally a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin. A health certificate and a certificate of analysis are added where the destination or the buyer requires them.
What HS codes are used for olive oil and canned fish?
Virgin olive oil falls under heading 1509 and olive-pomace oil under 1510. Canned tuna is 1604.14 and canned sardines are 1604.13. National tariffs add more digits, so confirm with your customs broker.
Can I get samples before ordering?
Yes. Samples are sent before any contract so you can test the product. Courier cost is normally for the buyer.
Do you offer private label olive oil and canned fish?
Yes. You provide the artwork, we send a proof, and nothing is printed without your approval. Ask about minimum quantities for labels and cartons.
How long does shipping from Tunisia take?
Transit depends on the destination port and carrier schedule, from a few days to the Mediterranean to several weeks for distant markets. Your quotation states the production and loading time; the carrier gives the sailing schedule.
What is the shelf life of olive oil and canned tuna?
Bottled olive oil is commonly dated around 18 to 24 months from bottling; canned fish is often three years or more. Ask for the printed date on your specific item before ordering.
Do I need a halal certificate for olive oil or canned fish?
Many importers in Muslim-majority markets ask for halal documentation even for simple products. Check what your destination authority accepts and include the requirement in the contract.
Is a flexitank or drum better for bulk olive oil?
A flexitank in a 20 ft container is usually cheapest for one large buyer with pumping equipment. Drums suit smaller lots or several buyers. See our guides for the trade-offs.
How do I protect myself from fraud when buying food from an overseas exporter?
Check the company name and address, ask for certificates and verify them with the issuer, confirm bank details by phone, start with samples and a small order, and read the pro-forma invoice line by line.
